I am at the Amarillo airport this morning in Amarillo, Texas-- my hometown. This weekend, I stealthily flew here from Chicago on a covert operation to be present at a 60th birthday celebration for my dad. My mom decided a few months ago that she wanted to host a surprise party for him, and she wanted to make it a BIG celebration. I flew into town. He had friends and family from all over Texas travel to attend-- old friends, former roommates, business partners, siblings, church family. All in all, there was around 150 people present at this party, all there to celebrate his life. And through alittle luck, it was a complete surprise. It was a very fun evening. I think every person should have at least one opportunity to look back over the span of his or her life and celebrate the legacy they have left. This weekend was a wonderful reminder that a person's true legacy is the people you've loved and the people who have loved you.
David, you will never regret being there, trust me : )
